BURSARIES, SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Bursary and scholarship applications are available. Applicants must indicate whether they wish to be considered for one of the available scholarship options, by selecting the relevant bursary/scholarship application drop-down menu during their online Abstract submission process. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible as to the outcome of applications in order to allow successful candidates sufficient time to apply for visa applications and make travel arrangements.

Bursaries

The Scientific Committee will select from the submitted abstracts that cover original and innovative research to receive either a full or partial bursary.  There is no age restriction, but young African healthcare workers, scientists and researchers are encouraged to apply, preferably working in Africa.  Those working on operational research and practical projects will be considered favourably.

Full Bursaries

There are 3 full bursaries available to attend the Congress.

Criteria, (if selected), the applicant

  • Will confirm that he/she has not received a bursary from ICAN in the past 5 years;
  • Has not published the finding previously in any other forum;
  • Is prepared to allow publication of the abstract in a peer review journal;
  • Will be present at the ICAN conference and will write a report for the ICAN website at the end of the conference;
  • Will inform the ICAN committee well in advance, by 24 May 2020 if unable to attend so that the funds can be awarded to other candidates.

 

Successful applicants will receive the following:

  • Return airfare (economy class): the airfare will be reimbursed to the candidate once they have arrived at the conference and presented a receipt;
  • Full conference registration, accommodation and subsistence for 4 nights;
  • Complimentary attendance of social functions
    The winning abstract will be published in the Antimicrobial Resistance & Infections Control Journal

 

Partial Bursaries

There are 8 partial  bursaries available, open to all applicants who submit an abstract to attend the Congress.

Criteria, (if selected), the applicant

  • Will confirm that he/she has not received a bursary from ICAN in the past 5 years;
